This work explores the external, transformational factors regarding the future demand of blood products and the internal, organizational implications thereof for Sanquin, the Dutch national blood bank and multi-expertise blood organization. In Part I, various factors are identified and explored that would impact the demand of red blood cells and immunoglobulins. In Part II, topics of organizational improvisation and resilience and explored as Sanquin is catalyzed into action during the COVID-19 pandemic.
