Internships at Sanquin Diagnostic Services

The laboratories of Sanquin Diagnostic Services have two missions: performing routine diagnostic tests for patient diagnostics while keeping the assay catalogue state-of-the-art, and developing and validating assays for academic research centers, pharma and biotech companies. The unit Pharma and Biotech Services consists in four different labs each with their own specialization. Please read further to get to know the labs and to see whether an internship placement is currently available.

Biologics laboratory

The Biologics laboratory develops and validates assays to monitor level and immunogenicity of biologics (e.g. monoclonal antibody therapies). These assays are used to optimize treatment of patients and to support (pre-)clinical trials. We are continuously updating our portfolio of assays for new drug that (are planned to) come to market. In addition we are actively researching and developing techniques that are more sensitive, efficient, and/or cost-effective. We can accommodate MLO student that want to familiarize themselves with all aspects of hospital diagnostics and HLO students to develop and validate new assays (formats). Master students in the field of Life Science and Science Based Business or equivalent may also apply.

At the moment, the internship positions at the biologics laboratory have been filled for the 2023 - 2024 school year and no additional internship position(s) are available. Please, do bear with us. If there are no internships advertised, that means there are none at the moment. We expect to offer new internships in May 2024. Again: if they do not appear, they are not available. Please return to this website regularly for updates.

Immunomonitoring Services

Immunomonitoring services (IMS) provides customized cellular assays in the field of immunology for biotech and pharmaceutical compagnies.  We are constantly setting up new assays or improving on existing ones. Techniques used in our lab are: PBMC isolation, MACS, primary cell culture, Flow cytometry, ELISA, ELIspot, Fluorospot and  Luminex. We can accommodate HLO students with an interest in immunology to set up and validate cellular assays.

Immunopathology and hemostasis (IPH) laboratory

The Immunopathology and Hemostasis lab (IPH) has expertise in the field of complement system, auto-immune diseases and hemostasis and offers two types of services. The lab performs a varied array of assays either manual or automated: ELISA, nephelometry/turbidimetry, coagulation assays, immunofluorescence and flow cytometry.
We can accommodate MLO student that want to familiarize themselves with all aspects of hospital diagnostics and HLO students to develop and validate new assays (formats). Master students in the field of Life Science or equivalent may also apply.
