Ivo van Schaik to become CEO of Sanquin
NewsProf. Dr. Ivo N. van Schaik has been appointed CEO of the Sanquin Blood Supply Foundation by the Sanquin Supervisory Board, taking effect from 1 October 2022. He succeeds Tjark Tjin-A-Tsoi, who left to the Dutch Blood Supply after two years.
“According to the Supervisory Board, the experience and managerial style of Mr. van Schaik is an excellent fit to further guide Sanquin in its expansion and developments following the deployed strategy. His extensive medical and administrative experience within organizations with a major social role gives us great confidence in his ability to further expand the organization. Conversely, Mr. van Schaik may rely on a strong and enthusiastic base of employees,” says Huibert Pols, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
Ivo van Schaik is now chairman of the Board of Directors of the Spaarne Gasthuis. His managerial experience, combined with his extensive scientific career, fit in well with Sanquin's organization and culture.
“Sanquin is unique, seeing that the collection of blood and plasma from voluntary donors is only the starting point. Blood products and medicine are produced from it, and the donations are used for innovation and scientific research. It’s a privilege to be able to continue the journey started by my predecessor and to further expand the organization in the coming years, together with all the enthusiastic employees of Sanquin. Finding added value for patients, donors and society will always be my starting point,” says Ivo van Schaik.
