On 26 June 2023, Prof John Haanen MD PhD (Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam, The Netherlands) will give a Landsteiner Lecture at Sanquin Research.

Dr. Haanen is a medical oncologist at the NKI-AvL for many years. He works at the forefront of immunotherapy in solid cancers. His connection from preclinical work with clinical work has yielded important insights in the mode of action of immunotherapy. It also has brought novel treatment regimens into the clinic. He for instance has spearheaded the introduction of TIL therapy for melanoma in the NL, which is now included in the Dutch Health insurance package.
Dr. Haanen also works on CAR T cell therapies, and on TCR-engineered T cells directed towards neo-antigens of tumors, and is starting a clinical trial to introduce this method.
