Sanquin Diagnostic Services continuously strives to offer tests for the latest therapeutic biologic on the market. The dupilumab level assay is one of our latest ISO15189 EMA/FDA compliant validated tests for the sensitive measurement of dupilumab levels in serum.

Dupilumab is prescribed in atopic dermatitis, severe asthma, chronic rhinositus with nasal polyposis, eosinophilic esophagitis and prurigo nodularis. Dupilumab is an IgG4 monoclonal antibody that binds to IL-4-receptor α and thereby inhibits binding of IL-4 and IL-13 to this receptor. Although dupilumab is very effective in reducing the inflammatory response, standard dosing regimen of dupilumab results in a high level of dupilumab. At least one academic study by Spekhorst et al. showed that dose interval extension was possible up to 8 weeks. In this study, our assay was used to determine the dupilumab level in patient sera.

When dose extension is considered, we recommend therapeutic drug monitoring to monitor drug level during dose extension and adjust drug level if necessary.
